January Birthstone: Garnet

Garnet, the birthstone for January,  signifies eternal friendship and trust and is the perfect gift for a friend.  Garnet, derived from the word granatum, means seed, and is called so because of the gemstone's resemblance to a pomegranate seed.  References to the gemstone dates back to 3100 B.C., when the Egyptians used garnets as inlays jewelry.  Garnet is the name of a group of minerals that comes in a rainbow of colors, from the deep red of the pyrope garnet to the vibrant green of tsavorites.  Today, the most important sources for garnet are Africa, Sri Lanka, and India. Featured Handmade Artist: PauwowHandmade

First off, tell us about yourself.
Hi, my name is Paula and I have a little shop on Etsy. I am an art student, I study graphic design and I love to draw and make jewelry in my free time. In my shop I offer resin, beaded and waxed cords jewelry.

How did you start creating your artwork, and how long have you been doing it?
I first started a few years ago by making polymer clay jewelry for myself and than stopped for a while. Last year I started again by making resin jewelry and everyone encouraged me to sell them online.

Polymer Clay Dangle Earrings, Resin Polka Dots Earrings

What do you love most about your craft/business?
I really love making my jewelry, it's the best way to enjoy myself. Another thing I like is the fact that people all around the world are wearing my handmade jewelry, it's a great feeling!

Heart Shaped Ring, Black Resin Jewelry, Antiqued Brass Ring With Wing Charms

Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from everything around me, from the people I meet, from nature, the art I study!

Colored Mini Post Earrings, Colored Resin Studs, Polymer Clay Jewelry

Outside of crafting, what else do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy taking long walks with my boyfriend and my sweet dog, they are always there for me and the ones that approve every piece of my jewelry, lol.
